What is automatic meter reading (AMR)?
Automatic meter reading is a process of collecting meter data on a regular schedule without the use of a human meter reader.
What is advanced metering infrastructure (AMI)?
Advanced metering infrastructure is a relatively new industry term which is created to differentiate between one-way AMR systems and more advanced two-way systems. With an AMI sytem, one can send commands or changes to the meters. Byram Laboratories provides full two-way system, but sometimes calls it an AMR system because that term is more recognizable to most people.
How difficult is it to change to an automatic meter reading system?
Upgrading to an AMR system requires that you replace your current meters with ones that have radio communications capabilities. Normally, this is a matter of simply removing the old meter and replacing it with another of the same form. A telephone or internet connection must be installed at the collector points if they are not already present. Byram Laboratories can help you plan for an easy transition.
