  Overview

An advanced metering infrastructure (AMI) system with:
- On-demand reading
- Service disconnection
- Demand, time-of-use, and load profiling
- Tamper alerting

Remote collection of energy usage data is made possible by meters with two-way radio communication capabilities. The meters, developed and manufactured by Elster Electricity (formerly ABB), automatically record usage and other types of data and transmit it to a central field location on an assigned schedule.

At the center of every wireless network is the A3 Collector meter. This unique meter serves as the network router and central data acquisition point, and it even doubles as a regular meter that can be installed at a consumption measurement point. The ability to double as a regular meter eliminates the need to find a special place for it, like an office or a public telephone pole.

Engineered as a “mesh” network, the system automatically compensates for meters placed in an obstructed path or too far from the central collectors. Any other meter within range can echo the signal until it reaches its destination. With multiple “hops”, meters can be reached from miles away.

Also on a predetermined schedule, data from the A3 Collector(s) is recorded on an off-site computer system that is maintained by our technicians. Communication from our servers to your central field units can be through a broadband Internet connection, traditional telephone modem, or cellular phone modem. The data is stored in our central office and automatically backed up at a secondary location.
