What is submetering?
Submetering is the practice of allocating utility costs to individual users. Some apartment complexes, condominiums and commercial buildings are billed by the utility as one single customer. Instead of dividing the bill equally or building costs into rent, landlords and property managers can meter their tenants' usage and bill them for the actual amount of services used. Submetering ensures equitable billing, encourages conservation, and generally lowers costs for everybody involved.
Typical applications for submetering include:
- apartments
- condominiums
- shopping malls
- military bases
- office buildings
- universities
Submetering with an Automatic Meter Reading (AMR) System
Now you can eliminate the need for manual meter readings with electric and water meters that are equiped with radio transmitters. The transmitters will send the consumption wirelessly to a data collector located on-site. The data collector can be read remotely by you or a third-party billing company.
